TEHRAN (PEDCO) -- The head of Petroiran Development Company (PEDCO) announced the signing of a contract for drilling 9 wells in the South Pars gas field between PEDCO and Pars Oil and Gas Company.
Mansour Mehrshad, speaking on behalf of the Public Relations and International Affairs, stated, "In order to compensate for the reduction in production from South Pars, a new operational plan of 35 wells has been defined in this joint field.
As part of the second phase of this plan, a contract for drilling 9 wells in the South Pars gas field has been signed between Pars Oil and Gas Company and Iran's Petro Development Company.

He continued, "This contract, which was awarded to PEDCO through an EPD tender, includes drilling 9 wells on the SPD19C, SPD2, SPD8, SPD15, and SPD12B platforms, to be completed over a period of 32 months.
"
It's worth noting that with 75% of the country's primary energy mix composed of natural gas and 70% of the country's gas supply dependent on the South Pars gas field, this joint field holds significant importance in the current and future gas extraction conditions and plays a crucial role in ensuring the country's sustainable energy supply.
Simultaneously, with the growth and expansion of the industry and the consequent increase in the population, there has been a steady rise in gas consumption for household and industrial purposes, hence the country's escalating need for gas production.
To address this, a drilling plan for 35 wells within the South Pars field has been put on the agenda.
Previously, the CEO of the National Iranian Oil Company had announced the allocation of drilling 35 wells within the South Pars field, with a budget of $1.17 billion, aimed at enhancing productivity and maintaining gas production efficiency among four Iranian drilling, exploration, and production companies.
