TEHRAN, April 19 (PEDCO) — In one of Iran’s most complex offshore drilling maneuvers to date, the drilling arm of the PetroIran Development Company (PEDCO), Drilling Company International Ltd. (DCI), has successfully relocated its DCI-2 rig to the SPD15 platform in the Persian Gulf, overcoming severe maritime conditions and operational challenges without halting gas production.
The rig was repositioned as part of the next phase of the national Infill Drilling Project, following the successful completion of drilling operations at the SPD12B-05 well from the SPD12B platform.
The SPD12B-05 operation, which set multiple drilling records, added an estimated 2 million cubic meters per day to Iran’s gas production capacity.
The recent rig relocation was executed in early April 2025 under adverse weather conditions, uneven seabed topography, and a strict mandate to avoid production interruptions.
Despite these hurdles, the DCI team completed the operation efficiently and safely through meticulous planning, 24/7 technical coordination, and reliance on local expertise.
Officials underscored the achievement as a testament to Iranian capabilities in offshore energy operations. The relocation relied entirely on domestic engineering and logistical support, including a coordinated fleet of support vessels and comprehensive risk management measures.
PEDCO CEO Dr. Ali Daghayeghi praised the team’s resilience and precision, highlighting the significance of this milestone in advancing the country’s offshore drilling initiatives while maintaining uninterrupted energy output.
